The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority is expanding its regional transit network with the launch of the 727 Airport Express, the agency’s first premium express service connecting downtown St. Petersburg with Tampa International Airport.
The service began operating earlier this week, and PSTA marked the milestone Thursday with a ribbon-cutting at TPA. The new route gives St. Petersburg residents, visitors and airport employees a new option for traveling between the city and America’s favorite airport.
“People have been asking for a direct connection between St. Pete and Tampa International Airport, and now it’s here,” said Brad Miller, Chief Executive Officer of PSTA. “The 727 reflects the region it serves, from its name, inspired by our iconic area code to its connection across the Howard Frankland Bridge. It’s a commitment to our riders and our region to keep finding better ways to connect Tampa Bay.”
“Visitors come from around the world, and they ask all the time, ‘How do I get to St. Pete? How do I get to the beaches?’ and until now, the answer was taxi or rideshare,” said Michael Stephens, CEO of Tampa International Airport. “But this new 727 Airport Express service is going to be a great new option for those folks, so they can take a quick ride across the Howard Frankland, non-stop to downtown St. Pete. This is super exciting!”
The 727 operates seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., with nine stops throughout downtown St. Petersburg and service to TPA via the Howard Frankland Bridge Express Lanes. Buses feature luggage racks and connect with the SunRunner and broader PSTA network.
