#2 A Night with Janis Joplin

American Stage opens A Night with Janis Joplin this week! This musical celebrates the legendary Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll and the powerful women who influenced her, including Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith. Runs through October 11th. Ages 13+.

#3 Battle of the Bands

Get ready for a night of live music and friendly competition as Gulfport’s Battle of the Bands takes over the Catherine Hickman Theater this Saturday, Sept 19th 6–9pm (doors open at 5pm). Local bands will compete for the #1 honor with everything from rock & blues to pop & original music. Presented by the Gulfport Senior Foundation, the evening is a chance to hear local talent, cheer on your favorites & enjoy some community spirit.

#4 Gulfport Night Market

If you haven’t checked out the Gulfport Night Market yet, this Saturday, Sept 19, is a great time to go. The market returns the first Friday and third Saturday 5-9pm of every month, bringing local artists, makers & small businesses to downtown Gulfport with handmade art, jewelry, clothing, pet products, packaged foods and more. It’s an easygoing evening to shop local, stroll around and enjoy the Gulfport atmosphere. Free event.

#5 TFO Presents Pirates of the Carribbean Concert

Ahoy, movie fans! The Florida Orchestra brings Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl to the Mahaffey Theater this Friday (7:30pm) and Saturday (2pm), September 18 & 19th. Watch Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner’s high-seas adventure on the big screen while The Florida Orchestra performs Klaus Badelt & Hans Zimmer’s thrilling score live.
