SUNSHINE CITY COMEDY CLUB

Always Leave Em’ Laughing

A 15-year veteran on the stand-up comedy circuit, funny guy Kenny Garcia opened the doors to the Sunshine City Comedy Club in St. Pete Beach on April 21. It’s been a big hit with locals and visitors who enjoy the hilarious and sometimes irreverent stand-up performers from all over the U.S.

Guests can enjoy free parking and full bar through June, then a curated beer and wine list at the boutique comedy club. There’s a SunRunner stop nearby and great restaurants for pre-show dining…and a food menu is in the works for the club this summer.

On Tues. @ 8pm, it’s open mic night. Wed.-Thurs. is house night with five comics @8:30pm and the Club hosts weekend shows twice a night. In June-August, make plans now to see JJ Curry, Jason Allen-King, Abi Sanchez, Sean Harper, Kojo Prince, Kandyce August, Paul Farahwar and others. On June 23, get your tickets now for the Big Pants Comedy Gameshow. And you won’t want to miss Mentalist Robert Blackbeard@7pm June 18. Times vary for shows; visitsunshinecitycomedyclub.com/calendar.

Performing at major comedy clubs and festivals, Kenny Garcia has shared stages with the likes of Josh Wolf, Theo Von, Whitney Cummings, Damon Wayans, Jon Rudnitsky and knows how to make an evening of comedy memorable.  Says the seasoned comic who hails from the Lower East Side of Manhattan: “I wanted to give local comics a place to hone their chops as well as showcase seasoned stand-up comedians. We have created a very intimate speakeasy vibe in our showroom. Going from a comedian to a club owner has been a learning game, seeing what other club owners did right or wrong from a comedian’s POV! I also have fallen deeply in love with St Pete and the community here, I was traveling for comedy almost 40 weekends a year and decided I did not want to be on the road anymore.”

Garcia says the community needed his comedy club. “There are many local comics, both newcomers and VIP experienced comedians, who come to the open mic to sharpen their jokes. I think doing stand up is done best when you feel free on stage, and I take great pride in giving comedians the freedom to try and be the truest forms of themselves. Some of the regulars are Al C, Jake Polin, Gordon Dixon, Spike Salzer; the open mic is hosted by Forrest Beers.”
