St. Pete Beach Youth Builds Custom Toy Box As a Service for Local Beach Visitors

A local youth leader recently completed a thoughtful and beneficial community service project in conjunction with her Girl Scouts membership. Isabella G from Troop 60912 (Hoxie Group), GSWCF (Girl Scouts of West Central Florida) created and installed a toy box she built herself for use at Pass-A-Grille beach. Isabella is 14 years old and has been in the Girl Scouts since she was five.

This particular project is part of earning her Silver Award which focuses on a sustainable idea to help the community. The project is to be reuseable or provide a service which can be maintained or passed on. The design concept was to use similar building methods and materials for an outdoor deck (i.e., pressure treated timber, exterior stainless steel deck screws, Thompson water seal stain for decks). The toy box was constructed to sit off the ground to allow for any drainage. It is built sturdy enough to withstand the natural elements. Some of the challenges Isabella experienced were how long it took to design & build the project and learning how to use a table saw and router.

Interest has been expressed in the possibility of another similar project to replace the current toy box at Upham Beach. The City of St. Pete Beach thanks Isabella for her leadership and community service. CLICK HERE to sign up for alerts & updates from the City of St. Pete Beach.
