As dengue activity continues in Pinellas County, Madeira Beach residents are encouraged to take a few simple steps to reduce mosquito breeding and protect themselves from mosquito bites.
Regularly checking your property and eliminating standing water can make a big difference in reducing mosquito populations.
Protect yourself by:
- Dumping standing water at least once a week.
- Checking flower pots, buckets, bird baths, toys, and other containers that can collect water.
- Using an EPA-approved insect repellent when outdoors.
- Wearing long sleeves and light-colored clothing when possible.
Pinellas County Mosquito Control is expanding prevention efforts, including aerial larvicide treatments that target mosquito larvae before they become flying adults. The treatment being used, Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis), is not harmful to people, pets, or pollinators.
