Madeira Beach Municipal Election Results

Voters in Madeira Beach selected Mr. Doug Andrews as the new Commissioner representing District 3, re-elected Mr. John Douthirt as the Commissioner representing District 4, and approved 8 out of 11 proposed changes to the City’s Charter on Tuesday.

In his first campaign for public office, Commissioner Elect Andrews captured 52.9% of the vote to defeat J. Rodger Pryor for the District 3 seat left vacant in February. In District 4, Commissioner Douthirt garnered 50.59% of the vote to defeat a former Commission member, Steve Kochick. Commissioner Elect Andrews and Commissioner Douthirt will be sworn into office during the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

Voters also approved 8 out of 11 proposed changes to the City Charter by an average total of 67.81%. Rejected amendments included:

  • Amendment 1, which would have required a simple majority vote of the quorum of Commissioners present and eligible to vote, instead of three affirmative votes for most actions of the Board of Commissioners including some Ordinances, Resolutions, and other routine actions of the Board.
  • Amendment 8, which would have removed the City Treasurer/Finance Director from the list of Charter Officers that are hired and fired by the Board of Commissioners and placed the position under the direct supervision of the City Manager.
  • Amendment 10, which would have replaced the Board of Adjustment with a Special
  • Magistrate.
  • A total of 1,197 out of 3,260 registered Madeira Beach voters (36.7%) participated in the March
  • 12, 2019 election.
