I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the many kind words in your letters column, concerning my selection as the first recipient of the John Burke Memorial Award, presented by the Treasure Island Historical Society. I humbly accept this honor on behalf of the many fine organizations and individuals who have helped to make Treasure Island the fine community that it is today. – Julian W. Fant, Isle of Palms
I wanted to personally write and thank you for the huge article on Sacred Lands in your last issue. The peacock was very impressive and I am sure it drew more attention to the article. We did have a great concert by the Still Friends band from Punta Gorda. Thanks for all you do. – Shelley Eckert Sacred Lands Music Coordinator
I know I must have thanked you, over and over for the wonderful article you published following the tribute to our father “Peppy”; however, in packing up to move this week I came across the copy of your 2007 publication of Paradise News and since it was coincidentally Memorial Day Weekend, I just want to thank you again for your generous tribute to him. I know he covered you up with photos over the years and most of them are now at Gulf Beaches Historical Museum, but the Cover photo and the one on the end of the article shows it all about what things were like in 1956 when he arrived with our family here on St Pete Beach and took this cover photo at the Normandy Beach Hotel. It was actually used as the Florida Chamber of Commerce photo for Tourism for almost 10 years.
His photographs we will never get to see were the recognizance photos he took during WWII on PT Boats off the islands in the Pacific and others while on the Mine Sweeper in the same Pacific arena. My best, – Judy Brett, SPB
