Tampa Bay Watch June 25th Update

Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center will open on July 6

We’re thrilled to announce that the St. Pete Pier including the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center will be open to residents and visitors on Monday, July 6 at 5:00 PM. Details related to the safe opening will be provided soon. Located on the over-water walkway approaching the Pier head, the Discovery Center will present all you need to know about Tampa Bay’s unique ecosystem in a way that’s entertaining and hands-on. The indoor Exhibit Gallery features an Estuary Habitat that showcases a variety of species found in local waters. Visitors can also experience interactive displays, video presentations, a touch tank, and docent-led tours. We can’t wait for you to exPIERience the Discovery Center!

Participate in our July DIY Neighborhood Cleanup

Take action in your community to remove debris before it enters our waterways!

This summer’s event is a DIY “Do it yourself” Neighborhood Cleanup! We want to encourage YOU to hit those places in YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD where you’ve noticed sadly forgotten or misplaced trash.  How will we know when and where you clean up? Your cleanup efforts can take place on any day within the month of July. On June 30, we will send all registered volunteers a link with a survey created by Tampa Bay Watch on any smartphone or tablet device. You and your group will fill out the short survey during your cleanup, click submit and the data will be sent directly to Tampa Bay Watch. Your safety is most important to us! Please do not put yourself at risk for any reason and follow all CDC COVID-19 Guidelines during your cleanup. Please click here to register for the cleanup.

 Shell Donations Needed

Do you have extra shells laying around your home? Our educators at the Discovery Center are looking to acquire additional teaching tools like large shells, sea urchin tests, crab exoskeletons, etc. to engage and educate our students and public! Please contact Audrey at amitchell@tampabaywatch.org to donate your shells.

The Bay Still Needs Us

The bay still needs us, as do the community members we serve. The importance of preserving critical habitat around our treasured Tampa Bay estuary hasn’t wavered, and our community’s youth haven’t stopped needing the valuable environmental messaging our programs provide. If you’re in a position to do so, please consider making a donation or registering for/renewing your membership today. Your support ensures that our mission will remain strong and the bay will remain healthy in the days ahead.
