In Caravaggio’s Light: Baroque Masterpieces

In Caravaggio’s Light: Baroque Masterpieces from the Fondazione Roberto Longhi opens October 25. Drawn from the prestigious—and rarely seen—collection of Florence’s Fondazione Roberto Longhi, this landmark exhibition brings nearly 40 Baroque paintings to the MFA St. Petersburg, tracing how Caravaggio’s radical naturalism and chiaroscuro reshaped European art. At its core is his early showstopper, Boy Bitten by a Lizard, a compact drama of pain and surprise where human emotion meets lush still life. Surrounding it are masterworks by artists who felt his shockwave.
