Summary:
The City of St. Pete Beach has begun accepting resident registration for the Freebee ride service. As of 8/6/25 they have registered 159 residents for the service. To continue receiving the service free of charge, residents must pre-register in person at the Community Center. Enrollment requires two proofs of residency. The Community Center is open Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM for registration. Residents can register at the St. Pete Beach Community Center year-round, so long as they register prior to taking their first FreeBee ride to avoid the $3.00 charge. Guests of the resident will ride for free so long as the residents have requested the ride.
Additional/specific FAQs received from the community:
Q: What happens when my daughter, or my niece, or a friend visiting for the day, are riding with me, as a registered resident? Do they have to pay? Will the drivers be required to verify whether additional passengers are residents or not?
A: If the user is a registered resident, their guests will not have to pay as our drivers will not be verifying whether additional passengers are residents or not.
Q: What forms of payment will be accepted?
A: This is a cashless system, and the app will accept all forms of credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google pay.
Q: Is online Freebee registration not available?
A: The City of St. Pete beach is responsible for verifying and registering residents in person and verifying it against property appraiser’s website or by two forms of ID.
Q: If a family of four (2 adults, two minor kids) requests a ride, if the parents or one of the parents are registered residents, is the family required to pay for the children?
A: If the registered user requests the ride, it will be free for all.
Q: What if we’re not in town before September 1st? Can we still register when we get home?
A: Registration is ongoing. Residents just need to register prior to using Freebee for the first time after September 1st.
Q: When you provide proof of residency at the community center, what do they give you in return to show to the Freebee people? Will this be something you add to the app or a card or something you need to carry with you?
A: There is nothing to show Freebee. The information the resident provides at the Community Center goes directly into the Freebee database and the driver can verify it directly through the app.
