BOOK NOOK: Becoming FLO & Everybody But Us

BOOK NOOK by Nanette Wiser

Paradise NEWS contributor Deb Carson’s new book about her great-uncle will be featured in the June-July issue. “Becoming FLO…A Mostly True Story” started off as a master’s thesis and is now available as a limited-edition biography, signed by the author.

The cover is designed by PN’s art director Janet Nummi and edited by Nanette Wiser, PN’s executive editor. This is a story of an Orthodox Jewish Baltimore boy who ran off to the circus at age 16 and became one of the most famous clowns in the world and at Ringling and eventually found…herself in an era when LGBTQ acceptance was not the norm. “Everybody But Us” by Ben Rose is definitely the book to take to the beach this summer. The Treasure Island resident’s debut novel has garnered good reviews on Amazon and Goodreads and is available online at Amazon and Tombolo Books. A transplanted Floridian who has travelled extensively by bus, car, freight train, Amtrak, and foot, Ben was born in Oregon at the tail end of the ’60s. His travels began in his formative years during which time he developed a love of cheap motels and greasy spoons. Such locales are a mainstay of his literary offerings.

Ben is an ally to the LGBTQ+ Community, a supporter of human rights, and a believer in racial and gender equality. As one with Asperger’s, GAD, and PTSD, Ben has seen his share of hard traveling, abuse, and bullying which is reflected in his literary works.
