SUMMARY:Boca Ciega Yacht Club's 36th Annual Lighted Christmas Boat Parade
DESCRIPTION:The Boca Ciega Yacht Club (BCYC)\, a not-for-profit organization\, is announcing the 36th year of its Lighted Christmas Boat Parade which will be held on Saturday\, December 11\, 2020 beginning at 6:00 pm. BCYC conducts the boat parade to generate donations and other support for the Gulfport Police Department’s ‘Operation Santa’ charity which provides gifts to children whose Christmas’s would otherwise be less joyous without the generous support of the Gulfport community. This year will mark BCYC’s 21st year of proudly supporting this wonderful program. \nThe Annual Lighted Christmas Boat Parade is an all-volunteer event organized by the members of BCYC and their invited guests and is an event happily shared with the residents of Gulfport\, South Pasadena\, and St. Petersburg. Members spend many hours planning and decorating their boats for maximum enjoyment. We are again asking local businesses to help support our boat captains by donating gift certificates to be used as boat prizes. We’re proud of the fact that our boat captains all receive a prize for their hard work and bragging rights for their decorations. Last year’s winner\, Lee Nell’s boat and crew MeeShee won for their “Buh-Bye 2020!” theme. \nPlease note that the parade route has changed again this year to accommodate the home ports of more of the parade participants. The parade will begin by entering the Gulfport Municipal Marina at approximately 6:00 pm. It will then travel past the William’s Pier & Casino in Gulfport\, past the beaches and into the canals of Town Shores\, Pelican Bay\, Skimmer’s Point\, Bayview Circle\, past a portion of Kipps Colony and near PYCC\, then along Dolphin Blvd to the Pasadena Golf Club Estates before swinging across the bay to Isla del Sol before returning to our slips. \nThere is an entry fee for each boat of two unwrapped toys or a monetary donation (checks must be made out to “Operation Santa”). Both sail and power boats are welcome to join in the fun and this event is open to both members and non-members. Registration is available online at http://www.sailbcyc.org/ChristmasBoatParade. \nThe BCYC family wishes you and your family a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

And there are more than 20 smaller cities that have excellent comic cons\, such as Lakeland\, Pensascola\, and St. Augustine  \n“It’s long past time for St. Petersburg\, a world-wide destination city\, to have a high-end\, annual comic convention\,” said Dewey Caruthers\, who is organizing the con with his teenage daughters Blu and Scarlet. “There has been an enthusiastic welcome from comic con fans\, cosplayers and comic-related vendors locally and statewide\,” he said. \nCelebrity guests include three anime voice actors\, four comic artists\, and six of Florida’s top cosplayers. (full list https://stpete.floridacomiccons.com/guests/) “We’re bringing in voice actors and artists from around the nation as well as top cosplay talent from throughout the state\,” said Blu Caruthers\, a senior at the Academy of Entertainment Arts at Hollins High School.  \nMany of the anime voice actors and comic artists appearing at St. Pete Comic Con 2022 have never been to Florida or have not appeared in the state in many years\, giving many fans a rare opportunity to get their photos and signatures. “We researched and analyzed tons of potential guests before deciding on those who would be best for our convention\,” said Scarlet Caruthers\, a freshman at the Academy of Entertainment Arts at Hollins High School.   \nAnime voice actors include Erica Schroeder\, who voices characters from popular anime shows like Pokemon\, Sonic the Hedgehog\, One Piece\, and Yu-Gi-Oh; and Mike McFarland who voices characters from beloved anime shows like Dragon Ball\, My Hero Academia\, Attack on Titan\, and Fullmetal Alchemist; as well as Sarah Wiedenheft\, who voices characters in My Hero Academia\, Dragon Ball Super\, Dr. Stone\, and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. \nAmong the comic artists featured is Mike Grell\, who is known for his work Green Arrow The Longbow Hunters\, which was inspiration for the popular CW TV series “Arrow.” And Grell’s other work includes Green Lantern\, The Warlord\, and Jon Sable. Another featured artist is Alex Saviuk\, who is well known for his seven-year run with Web of Spider-Man. Saviuk’s other work includes Superman and The Flash. Also appearing is Omar Francia\, who is widely known for his work on Star Wars as well as Doom Patrol\, Mass Effect and the critically acclaimed Volition. And Sergio Cariello\, who is known for Deathstroke\, Batman\, the Avengers and The Action Bible. \nIn addition\, award-winning guest cosplayers will host panel discussions\, which includes a session on Saturday for first-time convention goers called “Comic Con 101\,” and a session on Sunday for novice and intermediate cosplayers to hone their skills called “Cosplay Q&A: Ask the Experts.” \n“We want people who are unfamiliar with comic conventions to feel welcome\, join in on the fun\, and meet the best cosplayers in Florida\,” said Dewey Caruthers\, noting that all of the cosplay guests have been featured in Florida Cosplay Digital Magazine.  \nIncluded in the convention schedule are cosplay contests each day\, which will be judged by the guest cosplayers. Saturday’s cosplay contest is titled “craftsmanship\,” with the following categories and prizes: best in show with a $200 award\, master $150 award\, journeyman $100\, and novice $50. Immediately following the contest is a panel discussion with the winners\, which includes analysis by the guest cosplayers. And Sunday’s cosplay contest is “runway”\, and includes categories for best in show\, best anime\, best comic\, best group\, and best youth – all of whom will receive appropriately unusual trophies. \nThe convention will also feature anime activities and science fiction programming. For example\, Sailor Moon anime activities include “Sailor Moon Jeopardy” and “Sailor Moon Death Match\,” and Star Wars science fiction programming will feature light saber training. \nMoreover\, there are panel discussions on a wide range of geek topics. For instance\, there will be two panels on the paranormal and ghosts\, with one focusing on the phenomenon in Tampa Bay and the other specific to spirits in St. Petersburg. And there will be panels on anime and comics that feature the guest voice actors and artists.

SUMMARY:Paranormal Investigation 101
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in learning more about paranormal investigation and ghost hunting?  Then this is for you.  The SPIRITS of St. Petersburg\, a team whose existence spans over twenty years\, is offering a one day class that will offer the fundamentals and demonstrations of ghost investigations.  This includes evidence review\, technology demonstrations\, and ghost stories from the team’s experiences.  We will also talk of the history and heritage of the haunted building we are in! \n\nThe event is hosted in the historic Don Vista building next door to the famed Don Cesar.  In fact\, a SPIRITS investigation during the World’s Largest Ghost Hunt event revealed that the Don Cesar and Don Vista buildings may share the same ghosts!  (Thomas Rowe lived in the building while the Don Cesar was being built\, and his spirit may still be there\, too).
